is an site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne and is located on a mountainside above the town of Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland.

The work is built of concrete and consists of five interconnected domes of different sizes. The heights of the domes are between 2 and 4 meters and they cover an area of about 30 square meters. Each dome has its own resonance that corresponds to a tone in the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony, and works as a natural amplifier to that tone.

Tvísöngur was opened to the public on September 5, 2012, and everyone can access it. It is embedded in the mountainside above the town, in a quiet area with a breathtaking view of the fjord. It offers an acoustic sensation that can be explored and experimented with by the visitor. The site’s solitude and tranquility offers a perfect setting for singing or music playing, alone, in harmony, for ones own pleasure or for an audience.

Lukas Kühne’s artworks are dedicated to space and frequency. He lives in Berlin and Montevideo, Uruguay, where he heads the workshop “Form and Sound” at the Faculty of Arts of the State University. The sculpture “Tvísöngur” relates to a series of works by the artist dealing with musical forms, one of which is the sculpture “Cromatico” built in Tallinn, Estonia in 2011.

To enjoy and experience Tvísöngur guest need to walk a gravel road that starts across from Brimberg Fish Factory, for 15-20 minutes.

Langahlid has two summer houses in beautiful natural settings. At the mouth of Vestdalur valley which is a nature reserve.  Each house has three bedrooms with 6 beds, a living room, kitchen and a restroom. They are well equipped, with a big porch, hot tub and outdoor barbeque.

The long calm, deep fjord of Seydisfjordur twists and turns 17 kilometres from its mouth to the head of the fjord, where the town of the same name shelters beneath Mt. Strandartindur (1010 m)  and Mt. Bjólfur (1085 m). Seydisfjordur is one of the imposing fjords in east Iceland. In the walley above the town, the river Fjarðará cascades from the edge of the heath above in innumerable beautiful waterfalls; down to Lón (the lagoon) at the head of the fjord. A road leads up from the fjord, along by the river, to the Hérað district ( Egilsstaðir) 26. km away across Fjarðarheiði heath. The route (Stafirnir) down into Seyðisfjörður by the FJarðará river is one of Iceland’s most spectacular roads.

Today about 750 people live in Seydisfjordur. The local economy has long been based on the fisheries, while light industry also flourishes. Tourism is plays a greater role in the recent years, as this picturesque town with  its spectacular surroundings attracts more and more visitors. Seydisfjordur is on Lonely planet’s top list for “must visit” destinations in Iceland.

The information Centre is at the Ferry terminal, where the car- and passanger ferry Norrona docks every week, year round. It’s open mon-fri from 09:00 – 16:00 . It’s also open when Norrona docks and during the stay of a cruise ship.

At the information center one can find booklets from all around the country, hiking maps and road maps, stamps, postcards and telephone cards. There are several public telephones at the center, a wireless internet connection free of charge for guests, a small souvenir shop and café open when ships are docking. WC for men, women and disables. A waiting room for Norrona’s passengers and FAS bus passengers.

Within the reserve there are at least 90 archaeological sites which are thought to be evidence of continuous habitation of the land in this area since the settlement of Iceland over 1000 years ago. Many of the remains are now covered with vegetation and make the perfect place to rest for a while and contemplate the subsistence lifestyles of the people that lived from these lands.

The reserve has within it habitats and ecosystems representative of the East fjords region including all the common species of flora and fauna you might expect plus a few rarities.

Wander a few minutes from the door and you are either on the beach, staring in awe at the sea bird colonies on the cliffs or surrounded by wild flower meadows and that is just around the house – the rest of the reserve has many natural spectacles for you to discover including waterfalls, snowfields, reindeer, interesting geological formations and a large arctic tern colony.
