Sea angling, cruising and bird watching. In the safe hands of local fisherman, Haraldur Árnason you get the opportunity to fish, process your catch, discover the fjords secret treasures and visit the puffins and other seabird’s magnificent settlements. It is also possible to have your processed catch served for dinner in Hotel Aldan restaurant. In winter season seabird hunting is available.

Stafdalur skiing area
Period: December – May
Only 9 km from Seydisfjordur by road, and 17 km from Egilsstadir, is the Stafdalur ski area on Fjardarheidi heath, offering plenty of variety for skiers and a 1.000 m ski lift, as well as a lift for children. Cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are possible from the skiing area and from the Fjardarheidi heath far into the summer. There is good access for snowmobile from Stafdalur to the magnificent East fjords mountains, deserted fjords and to the famous Dyrfjöll. The skiing area is open daily, weather permitting. Seydisfjordur is regarded by many as one of Iceland’s most picturesque towns, not only due to its impressive environment, but also because nowhere in Iceland has a community of old wooden buildings been preserved as well as here. We present a nice and easy walk around the old town with a local guide. Included in the walk is a visit to the beautiful Blue Church, local arts- and handcraft markets, Skaftfell – cultural centre and the Technical Museum which houses the oldest mechanic shop and the first telegraph station in Iceland. A quaint museum which presents an overview of the invasion of modern time in Iceland.

Diving in Seydisfjordur

Köfun í Seyðisfirði El Grillo at the bottom og Seydisfjordur fjord 

At the bottom of Seydisfjordur, 40 meters below sea level, sits a wreck of an oil tanker named El Grillo. The tanker was bombed out in the Second World War by a German fighter plane.  The wreck attracts many divers to Seydisfjordur. If you’re interested in diving we recommend that you contact www.dive.is to book a tour to Seydisfjordur. Paragliding

Mt. Bjólfur is an ideal spot for paragliding. The 4×4 road is open from June until it starts to snow in the winter again. It takes only 10 minutes to get up to about 700 mtr hight from the centre of town. Mt Bjólfur is 1085 mtr high.
